CHASING THE BAAN

About

The Baan – this is how the Indians call the tidal bore on the Hooghly River, one of the main tributaries of the Ganges.

It is a transient wave that sweeps away everything in its path and has been frightening Calcutta’s inhabitants forever. Two times a day (during tide changes) an impressively fast wave surges towards the inlands. But we never know where exactly…

Three adventurers are going to attempt surfing that tidal bore on camera for the first time in history: Antony “Yep” Colas, world expert on river waves and author of multiple reference works on surf; Steve King, an English surfer with the world record of the longest wave ever ridden until 2011; and Gaétan Sene, a Stand Up Paddle star.

An extraordinary adventure in a strikingly different country where everything is more complicated in terms of logistics: rare and incredible moments on a sacred river…
